Bedtime Beverages

As much as staying awake, alert, cognitively sharp and being able to multitask are top priorities of consumers, self-care and good sleep hygiene are also critical components to being one’s best. While some ingredients that assist with sleep aren’t GRAS and therefore can only be used in food and beverage supplements, many consumers look to the grocery store for non-habit-forming help with sleep – and many don’t differentiate between food and supplements. If you’re considering developing a line for sleep support, here are a few products already in the marketplace that may help inspire you:

Som Sleep:

Included in this 8oz can are the following active ingredients: L-theanine, GABA, and melatonin, in a 357mg proprietary blend. It’s recommended that you consume this 40-calorie (or 10 calorie if you prefer the sugar-free version) drink 30 minutes before bedtime for optimal results.

Sleep Well:

A brand based on the Island of Jersey (in between Normandy, France and England) conceived this milk-based drink which features valerian root as the main ingredient aiding with sleep. It can be enjoyed hot or cold and is available in chocolate and vanilla.

Dream Dust:

One can sprinkle this (100% cruelty-free and vegan) product which boasts an adaptogenic blend into herbal tea, or golden milk. The site suggests that taking it before bed should help reduce stress and promote healthier sleep.

Dream Water:

For those who have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, the 150mg proprietary blend of melatonin, 5-HTP and GABA should help. At 2.5oz it’s also safe to make it through security, so can also be consumed before an international flight. Dream Water also recently added Dream Water + Beauty to their portfolio which includes hyaluronic acid, biotin, and a few other ingredients thought to reduce eye wrinkles, promote thicker hair and nails and boost collagen.
