RTD Canned Cocktails saw 43% Growth* – Imbibe’s TTB & Alcoholish Flavors Can Help

 In Blog, food beverage news

While the term imbibe is often associated with alcohol consumption, our R&D team’s primary areas of expertise have been in formulating for functionals (CBD, BCAAs, animal and plant-based protein, vitamin blends, probiotics, apple cider vinegar, etc.), and optimizing flavor and overall taste (ask about our maskers, Pre/Sense™ Stevia and taste modulation tools).

In response to consumer demand, we continue to expand our footprint in alcoholic, no and low alcohol products (we’ve affectionately coined this segment as alcoholish). This is achieved through cocktail inspired flavors, flavors influenced by liquor and liqueurs, TTB approvable flavors and flavors that have already received the TTB certification. Maybe you’ve already tasted our work in alcoholic beverages or you’re still exploring the prospect of launching a non-alcoholic beverage product, either way, keep reading to expand your understanding of the world of alcohol approved flavors and Imbibe’s role in it:

What is TTB, you ask?Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau - Wikipedia

  • TTB stands for the Alcohol and Tobacco, Tax and Trade Bureau, a federal agency that collects taxes and enforces regulations related to the production, labeling, advertising, and marketing of alcohol and tobacco.
  • For flavors to be compliant in alcoholic beverages, Imbibe submits flavor formulas to the TTB for max usage levels for flavors and alcohol content contribution from the flavor.
  • Submission is only necessary for alcohol based finished applications.

Are there any other differences for TTB flavors, aside from formula approval?

  • There may be max usage levels for flavors, as certain raw materials are more heavily scrutinized in alcoholic beverages.
  • Imbibe generates Flavor Ingredient Data Sheet (FIDS) to relay max usage levels and alcohol contribution from the flavor.

Does Imbibe have any flavors that are already TTB approved?

  • Absolutely!
  • A few of our most requested TTB flavors (especially for, but not limited to, hard seltzers) include Pomegranate, Passion Fruit, Grilled Peach, Blood Orange, Cucumber, Watermelon Mint, Sangria Type, Strawberry Daiquiri, Root Beer Float, and a wide selection of Citrus varietals.
  • We also have a library of liquor, liqueur, and wine inspired flavors for both alcohol and non-alcohol products.
