Technician, Taste Modulation

Summary of Position
The Technician role within the Taste Modulation team is primarily a supporting role. This critical function strives to be action and results-oriented while working efficiently under the direction experienced personnel. This role performs multi-functional tasks such as pilot plant batching, flavor compounding and spray drying, analytical measurements, shelf-life studies, maintaining overall lab organization, and supporting sampling efforts. As this role is mainly supporting the Taste Modulation team, the specific day-to-day tasks may vary.

Essential Job Duties
  • Assist developers as needed.
  • Batch up and package multiple test variables of products and/or flavors to aid the new product development process.
  • Record formula, process, and product data for pilot plant runs and customer samples.
  • With guidance, run processing machines and techniques from bench top to pilot plant scale such as: Hot Filling, Niro and Buchi Spray Drying, Homogenization, Forced Carbonation, High shear mixers, etc.
  • Follow batching instructions provided by developers to batch flavors or finished beverages.
  • Gather analytical information; including specific gravity and flashpoints of flavors, and confirm products meet quality requirements such as pH, TA, Brix, Water Activity, and particle size.
  • Support the packaging, labeling, and shipping efforts to ensure new product samples are successfully delivered to customers.
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) guidelines. This includes properly cleaning and organizing all work areas and wearing all proper food safety and personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Frequently moves materials weighing up to 30 pounds across office.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other pilot plant machinery.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Experience in a food or beverage manufacturing production facility or laboratory is strongly preferred.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software products including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to lift to 30 lbs.

Working Conditions
  • Primarily lab setting with pilot plant exposure.
