Winter Fancy Food Show 2019

Imbibe sent a team to the Winter Fancy Foods Show to look for the biggest trends and most innovative products.
Here’s what we found!

Functional Beverages

Rebbl Elixirs showcased a mango coconut milk spiced with cayenne and ginger and enhanced with ashwagandha (an adaptogen) and turmeric.

Superfood “lattes” (aka better-for-you ingredients mixed with dairy or plant-based milk) are a growing trend in coffee shops. Remedy Organics  launched a line RTD superfood lattes featuring ingredients like blue spirulina, maca, matcha, and cacao with almond milk.

Republic of Tea launched a line of herbal teas for beauty enhancement and sleep. Butterfly pea flower and blueberry are the featured ingredients because they are high in the antioxidant proanthocyanidin, which is suggested to promote collagen growth and skin cell elasticity.

Numi introduced a line of RTD functional teas and 2 oz. shots. Products include Inflam Away, Immunity Defense, Belly Bliss, Mind Tonic, and Get Going.

Gut Health

Probiotics are so popular that prebiotics, a type of fiber that acts as fertilizer for the good bacteria in your gut, are gaining traction as a functional ingredients. Zen Basil uses hydrated basil seeds which are rich in prebiotics, vitamins, electrolytes and antioxidants.

The Living Apothecary launched a probiotic tea beverage made with kefir water. Kefir water is made in a similar way to kombucha but without the tea, which the brand adds into their product after the water is fermented.

Drinking vinegars are a trend to watch. These sweet and sour beverages can be enjoyed on their own, but an upward trend is using them as a cocktail mixer.

Kuze Fuku & Sons drinking vinegars feature globally inspired true-to-fruit flavors like yuzu and pomegranate.

Super Coffee

Functional coffee that delivers benefits beyond a healthy dose of caffeine is in the spotlight. Super Group was one of several brands showcasing coffee with ginseng for an additional energy boost.

Hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) is expected to be the “it” functional ingredient of 2019. CBD has been especially popular in coffee products like the one from Cadence Cold Brew.

Vita Cup infuses their coffee pods with vitamins and other functional ingredients. They showcased coffee with probiotics and collagen at the event.

Plant-Based

There was an abundance of plant-based products featured at the show including a dairy-free probiotic beverage from Lifeway made with pea protein and 10 vegan kefir cultures.

Brands are experimenting with different plant-based ingredients for dairy alternative yogurts. DAHliciousoffers a drinkable cashew yogurt enhanced with probiotics.

Rebbl Elixirs also showcased their line of plant-based protein beverages. Their latest launch is a Banana Nut protein beverage made with Brazil nuts, turmeric and ashwagandha.

Inspiration from India

Turveda launched a line of products inspired by Ayurveda, a holistic healing system that originated in India thousands of years ago. Products showcased were sparkling turmeric tonics, turmeric powders with collagen and bone broth, and turmeric coffee pods.

4th and Heart launched a line of indulgent spreads made with cacao and ghee, a clarified butter that originated in India. Flavors include passionfruit and coffee guarana.

Cardamom is a popular spice in India and one of our top flavors to watch in 2019. Raft promoted cardamom flavored bitters for cocktails, but we expect to see the spice in categories like tea, coffee, and craft soda.
