Alternative Milks

Packaged Facts predicts that the dairy and dairy alternative beverage market will reach $28 billion by 2021.

Plant-based dairy alternatives are expected to represent 40% of the combined total of dairy and dairy alternative beverages.

New types of nut-based dairy-alternative milks entering the market include hazelnut, macadamia, peanut, and tiger nut.
Other plant-based milks to watch are oat milk, hemp milk, flax milk, and quinoa milk.

In Coffee

Plant-based milk and creamer products are especially popular in the coffee category.Brands like Coffeemate Natural Bliss, So Delicious and Califia Farms offer a variety of almond and coconut milk creamers.

Califia Farms and New Barn have “Barista Blend” almond milks formulated specifically for lattes, cappuccinos and other popular coffeeshop creations.

Oatly Oat Milk is becoming a popular offering at coffee shops in New York City like Café Grumpy and Ninth Street Espresso.

Dessert

Dairy-free ice creams using coconut milk, cashew milk, and almond milk are becoming more common.

Ben and Jerry’s launched new flavors for its almond-milk based non-dairy ice creams this year, proving this has become an established category.

Vegan brands that were once boutique have expanded into supermarkets nationwide. One example is Hail Merry’s vegan tarts, cups, and cookies.
